Empowerment Lab – Your Hidden Specialty – August 22, 2026
Setup:
Every lifetime develops skills, but some capacities may be cultivated across many lifetimes until they become almost instinctive. These are not necessarily obvious talents, occupations, Roles, Casting influences, or Life Tasks. They may be subtle competencies in being human, like knowing how to begin again, recognizing what others overlook, navigating upheaval, translating complexity, bringing disparate people together, preserving what matters, challenging stagnation, creating alternatives, or helping others through endings.
In this Experimental Empowerment Lab, Michael will explore how fragments develop identifiable specialties through accumulated incarnational experience, how these differ from other elements of the Michael Teachings, and how they may show up in the current Personality. Participants will examine recurring patterns across their lives, natural abilities they may take for granted, and the kinds of situations in which other people may repeatedly turn to them.
The experiment will help each participant identify a possible Hidden Specialty, understand how it developed and functions, and consider how consciously recognizing this capacity might allow it to be used with greater choice, confidence, and purpose.
As with every Experimental Empowerment Lab, the exploration may also give Michael an opportunity to expand the teaching through what we discover together.
MEntity:
Hello to each of you. We are here, now. We can begin.
Today we explore what we can describe as a "Hidden Specialty." We use this phrase experimentally because what we are examining has not been formally defined within our teaching in quite this way. We are asking whether accumulated experiences of many lifetimes can produce a recognizable competence that is distinct from Role, Casting, Overleaves, Life Task, Agreements, or the talents developed by the current Personality. What we have found in our own exploration is that our initial answer to this question is yes.
Across many lifetimes, fragments tend to encounter certain kinds of circumstances repeatedly. Sometimes this repetition comes from choice, sometimes from culture or historical opportunity, sometimes from relationships, karma, or larger patterns of Essence exploration. Over time, some fragments become extraordinarily familiar with particular kinds of human problems.
We are not speaking simply of occupations.
A fragment may have been a teacher many times without developing a specialty in teaching. Another may rarely have held any formal position of authority and yet have developed a great capacity for stabilizing others during upheaval. One fragment may repeatedly find itself at beginnings, and another find themselves at endings, another where something must change, and another may repeatedly become the person who can translate between people who cannot understand one another.
Occupations change, and cultures change, and relationships change, and Personality changes, but the underlying problem being navigated may remain quite similar. This repetition can eventually produce what we will call an incarnational specialty. Or for the purposes of this lab, a Hidden Specialty. This is the capacity developed through accumulated experience that has become unusually familiar to Essence and therefore may appear in Personality with far less effort than would normally be required to develop it from the beginning. One would not likely remember learning it, but simply tend to know what to do.
These specialties are often "hidden" precisely because they do not feel like anything special to the person who possesses them. One of the most common indications of a Hidden Specialty is the assumption that everyone else can do what you do (or should be able to do it). You may think that you are simply noticing what is obvious, when in fact it is not obvious to others. You may think that someone needed to organize a situation and so you organized it, while others had no idea where to begin. You may recognize that another person needs help before they ask and assume anyone would have noticed. You may be unusually capable of starting over after disruption and think, "what else would I have done?" while another fragment may experience beginning again as one of the most difficult things imaginable.
The specialty can become invisible because there is often very little internal drama around the competency, itself. There may be enormous drama surrounding the circumstances in which it is used, but the capacity often feels strangely ordinary.
This is similar to asking someone who has been reading for 60 years how they recognize a familiar word. They generally do not experience each individual process involved in that recognition. The recognition has become immediate. Essence develops something similar across lifetimes.
The Personality does not inherit detailed memories or perfect abilities. Personality must still develop within the conditions of the current lifetime. However, Essence may have encountered a particular class of experience often enough that Personality approaches it with unusual instinct, recognition, resilience, or orientation.
It is important to distinguish this "Hidden Specialty" from several familiar elements in our teaching. Your Role describes a fundamental means through which Essence exists, contributes, and evolves. It is not acquired through experience, and it remains your Role throughout the Grand Cycle. Casting adds another structural influence to how Essence functions and expresses itself. Overleaves describe the mechanisms through which the current Personality navigates the lifetime, while the Life Task describes a central direction of fulfillment for the Personality. Talents may arise from biology, education, opportunity, practice, interests, or many other factors within the current life.
A Hidden Specialty is different from all of these because it could be described as earned familiarity.
Your Role may influence how the specialty is expressed, but it does not determine the actual specialty.
One of the best ways to begin identifying a Hidden Specialty is to ask, "what kind of human problem do I seem to know unusually well?" This is different from "what am I good at?"
The investigation should be about experience, not talent.
Hidden Specialties do not develop because Essence decides at the beginning of a Grand Cycle that it will specialize in one particular thing. This is something that emerges organically. One lifetime creates experience, another reinforces it, another complicates it, another forces one to approach the same basic challenge but from the opposite side. Over many incarnations, this can create a depth of familiarity that eventually becomes available to Personality almost instinctively.
For example, a fragment may experience abandonment in one lifetime, become the person who stays in another, become the person who must leave in another, and later become someone highly capable of recognizing when separation is necessary and when healing is possible. The specialty is not created by repeating the same role within the situation, but by experiencing many positions within the same human pattern.
We think this is why there are Cluster lifetimes, which are groups of 5 lifetimes focused from different angles on the same issue,
The surface biography of a person may conceal their actual specialty. Someone who has repeatedly experienced authority may become skilled at leadership, but the deeper specialty might be recognizing when authority has lost its legitimacy. Or a fragment who has repeatedly cared for others may not specialize in caregiving but in recognizing what another person needs before the person can find words for it. In other words, the specially lies beneath the biography.
We have much more to say on the subject that may help each of our students assess themselves for what may be their hidden specialty, but we also know that each of you likely seek our own assessment of you. We can provide this now. Before we do so, we will open the floor to questions, if you have any.
***QUESTIONS?***
MEntity: Yes, ANN
Ann H: Do we have more than one hidden specialty? Or subspecialties?
MEntity:
Oh yes, Essence may accumulate several specialties. We do not think there is necessarily one permanent Hidden Specialty. Some may be more developed than others and some may have been much more relevant during earlier Soul Ages. Some may remain quite dormant for several lifetimes before circumstances may call upon them to be used again.
What we seek to focus on today would be what we see as the most meaningful and relevant specialty for the current Personality. This may not be your only specialty, but one we see that may be most useful now.
Yes, KATJA
KatjaB: My question was about the earlier lifetimes and those that are not part of the current cluster. But it seems you already answered it.
MEntity:
We will begin with assessments then.
KATJA
We will describe your Hidden Specialty as FINDING THE PATTERN BENEATH ALL OF THE NOISE
This is the capacity to perceive the deeper pattern within emotionally or socially complicated circumstances and then gradually translate that pattern into something understandable, connective, and useful. You may often recognize what is actually happening in a situation long before there are enough words, or agreement or evidence to secure that recognition.
This may show up as persistent questioning, subconsciously or consciously tracking patterns, and a need to understand how seemingly separate experiences might connect.
ANN
We would describe your specialty as HOLDING THE LARGER HORIZON.
This is the capacity to place immediate circumstances within a much larger developmental context. Where others can become caught up by the intensity of what is happening NOW, you may more instinctively look for a longer arc, such as what is changing, what stage something may be passing through, what larger forces are converging, and what the present may eventually become.
This may have helped secure your orientation during periods where others may have felt events were chaotic and meaningless. This does not mean you were entirely confident or confronting, but beneath any chaos or struggle with meaning, that orientation remained. This does not mean you were entirely confident or confronting, but beneath any chaos or struggle with meaning, that orientation remained.
KERRIN
We would describe your specialty as FINDING A VIABLE PATH THROUGH DISORDER
This is the capacity to enter circumstances that have been shaped by confusion, disruption, competing forces, and unequal power and then gradually identify the path that is both workable and ethically sound. You rarely have looked for an escape from difficulty because of this, and you might tend to find yourself assessing what is happening, determining where power actually resides, recognize the obstacles that others may underestimate, and then search for a route that preserves the greatest degree of dignity, integrity, autonomy, and fairness.
This is not to say it is always successful, but it is a specialty.
MAUREEN
We would describe your specialty as STEADYING THE CROSSING.
This is the capacity to remain deeply present with others moving toward or through major thresholds in life, especially where something cannot be fixed, reversed, or made more comfortable. You have an unusual ability to stay emotionally engaged when life is asking for surrender, transition, grief, or profound change, all while still tending to practical reality. This is not about suffering along with others, but about being a stable witness to their changes, with presences, responsiveness, and love.
SUSAN
We would describe your specialty as RESTORING CONNECTION.
This is the capacity to help restore connection where something has become separated, depleted, fragmented, or forgotten. This might involve helping people reconnect with themselves, to one another, to the natural world, to meaning, or to a sense of wellness or belonging. There is an ability here to creation conditions for reconnection without forcing the outcome. In fact, this is not about you being the bridge every time, but sometimes helping others remember that there is a bridge at all.
ANDREAS
We might describe your specialty as TESTING WHAT CAN HOLD TRUE.
This is the capacity to examine an interpretation, assumption, or an apparent truth from several angles until you can determine what actually holds together. You are likely not so interested in accepting the first plausible answer and more interested in testing whether perception can remain sound after desires, fears, expectations, and contradictions have been taken into account. This may be very helpful for determining if convictions are simply wishful thinking even without requiring absolute proof. It is not so much about "is this true" but more about "is this sufficiently true enough for the next choice."
FELICITAS
We might describe your specialty as FOLLOWING THREADS THROUGH TIME.
There is a high capacity for recognizing consistency beneath change and changing forms, or forms that change. You are naturally drawn to questions of what persists after transformations within relationships, identity, emotional bonds, personal history, and the evolution of consciousness itself. Others may experience events as something more like chapters, but you might look for or even find the thread that connects through all of them. This is a sophisticated form of awareness that may help you to illuminate how people and relationships transform while still carrying recognizable themes forward, and to recognize when genuine evolution has occurred and not just simple repetition.
UMA
We might describe your specialty as GIVING STRUCTURE TO WHAT MUST ENDURE.
This is the capacity to recognize what is valuable, complex, and easily lost and you help create enough structure around it so that it can survive, remain accessible, and continue to serve others. This can be applied to teachings, communities, projects, conversations, or shared experiences. This is not about preserving information but about how it is organized, protected, clarified, and carried forward. There is a keen awareness of structure as it might preserve life vs how it might restrict it. It is not just about keeping what matters safe, but about ensuring that it can continue evolving without being lost to time.
PETRA
We can describe your specialty as RECOGNIZING THE SACRED IN THE HUMAN.
This is the capacity to perceive the deeper meaning, dignity, and emotional significance within a person or relationship, especially where others might only see circumstances, personality, or public identity. You look for the enduring essence of what someone has meant, how a bond has shaped both people, and what remains valuable even after the relationship might change. This is a powerful capacity to honor what is real about a person and see what is beautiful and how to let love remain meaningful without requiring the past to remain in the present in the same way.
PATTY
We would describe your specialty as MAKING WHAT MATTERS SUSTAINABLE.
This is the capacity to recognize what truly deserves care and attention and then help create conditions in which it can be sustained without any unnecessary drama. You may be especially good at bringing calm to people, to priorities, or processes that would otherwise become scattered, overextended, or depleted. This is not about holding everything together, but about identifying what is truly worth sustaining and giving your presence to that without abandoning your own capacity to receive.
KLAUS
We would describe your specialty as CLARIFYING WHAT ACTUALLY MATTERS.
This is the capacity to move through complexity, competing information, or emotional distractions and gradually identify the essential point that should not be lost. You may not always be the first to react but you may have an unusual ability to reduce a situation to its most consequential truth and then recognize what deserves attention versus what is simply noise. You might be especially effective at helping restore orientation for others and help stop circling a problem to finally see what the problem actually is.
JANET
We would say that your specialty is EXPANDING THE EDGES OF THE KNOWN.
This is the capacity to approach the unfamiliar, the unconventional, or territory that is difficult to verify and sustain your curiosity without requiring certainty. You are unusually willing to follow a question well beyond the boundaries of what is already established all while retaining enough discernment to keep your inquiry from becoming unquestioning belief. This allows you to serve as a thoughtful explorer of the unknown, and as someone who can widen the field of consideration, organize what is discovered, and help others engage in great possibilities without losing their own grounding.
We remind each of you that these Hidden Specialties are not another identity to carry or another obligation to perform or an interpretation of our own for you to force into truth. We merely offer a glimpse of how your experience has become fluency. What we share today may help you to see that some of what has come naturally or randomly or almost as background processes for you are not accidental, and that you can choose when, where, and how you use it. If you did not resonate with our interpretation offered to you in words chosen through this channel, we suggest using it as a launching point for determining more accurately what you can assess for yourself. What we shared is likely related, if not felt to be entirely accurate to your own perceptions.
Janet: What about Troy's Hidden Specialty?
MEntity:
We would describe his specialty as GIVING FORM TO THE UNARTICULATED.
He has the capacity to recognize something that is already present but not fully identified, organized, expressed, or made usable and then he gives it form. This applies to ideas, emotional realities, this teaching or any teaching, creative concepts, communities, language, or even just another person's emerging sense of self. He does not invent something from nothing, but detects the shape of something that is trying to become clearer and then helps that cross into expression. He can make the implicit explicit without stripping it of complexity. This shows up for him as high sensitivity to wording, framing, systems, names, categories, presentation, and whether something genuinely represents what it claims to represent. He can recognize which things are asking for help in becoming visible, intelligible, and real.
Felicitas: Very beautiful! Thank you for these gifts. I resonate very much with what you gave me as a hidden specialty.
MEntity:
The phrases we have offered each of you are fairly crude, but this is because we do not have a system of identification for these specialties, though we may form one as we gather more data to see if there are enough distinct patterns to name.
We must conclude here for today, but we open the floor to your discussions and feedback for your transcript, if you choose to offer that. Good day to each of you. Goodbye, for now.
